A psychosocial study of the roles of religious belief in criminality and violence, a joint study with Pete Harris at Oxford Brookes University, UK. The results of this project will be disseminated through a series of articles, conference papers and a monograph, the latter provisionally titled Criminality, Extremism and Religious Belief: Pathways between Justification and Desistance, which has been commissioned by Palgrave Macmillan.
A study in the modern history of hypnotism within psychiatry, primarily within Britain and Ireland, a joint study with Gordon Bates, Royal College of Psychiatrists. The results of this project will be primarily disseminated through a co-edited volume, provisionally titled The Hour of Suggestion: A Modern History of Hypnotism in Medicine, which has been commissioned for publication in 2027 on an open-access basis by University College London Press.
A study of the life and work of Jonathan Hanaghan and his pioneering development of psychoanalysis and talking therapies in Ireland between 1917 and 1967. The results of this project will be disseminated through articles, a conference or seminar on the history of psychoanalysis in Ireland, and a monograph, the latter provisionally titled Jonty: Jonathan Hanaghan and the Development of Psychoanalysis in Ireland.
A study of the history of psychoanalysis in Britain from the 1890s to the Second World War and the biographies of key contributors. The results of this project will be disseminated through articles, a monograph, and the website historiesofpsychoanalysis.com.
A study of aspects of the Armenian genocide of 1915-1923, focussing on (1) intergenerational trauma and psychological sequelae among survivors and (2) forms of resistance, particularly with respect to survivors participation with British military forces during the First World War.
A study of the censorship and state surveillance of medical, psychology, and sexology books in Britain from the 1890s to the 1930s.
